The site for this house is on former inshore fishing port located on a tiny point dividing a salt lake from the ocean, and behind a major beach. Together with the Macko Cottage and Ghost 12 boathouse, this project contributes to a ‘settlement strategy’ by re-creating the scale of a former collection of modest fish shacks.
This project is a vacation home for two families. The result is a program broken down into two small sleeping ‘sheds’ and one larger gathering ‘pavilion’ connected by a transparent entryway. All three buildings contain ‘servant’ cores. Similar to the neighbouring Ghost 7 cabins, this aggregation of buildings makes positive, tight spaces between and around them, embracing the settlement patterns of the former fish shacks as well as forming private, south-facing courtyards or microclimates. The ‘humpback’ roof echoes the natural topography.
