Guysborough Harbour,
Nova Scotia
Located on the shores of the Guysborough Harbour in eastern Nova Scotia, the project involved the renovation of an existing boathouse.
Reflecting the local vernacular seaside buildings, the two and a half story structure is wrapped in a taut 'skin' of eastern white cedar shingles.
Accessed via a 20 foot long metal bridge, entry occurs at the upper level into a low, compressed foyer.
The double height main living space features wrap around glazing, a woodstove, and a cantilevered metal deck. Millwork elements including the kitchen and built-in furniture are clad with horizontal wood boards. The structural wood framing is left exposed.
The ground level provides boat storage as well as bathing facilities and sauna. Two large access doors with detachable ramps enable boats to be moved in and out.
